Interweave Crochet: Lace Skirt
Ever since I abandoned Violet Beauregard, I’ve been wondering what to do with the Shine Sport yarn. I came across Lily Chin’s Lace Skirt when I was surfing Interweave Crochet. Ooh pretty!
Pattern: Interweave Crochet’s Lace Skirt with Drawstring Waist
Yarn: 5 x Knit Picks’s Shine Sport in Violet
Hook: 3.75mm
Size: 29¼”
Comments: The pattern is pretty easy to read but I wish a chart had been included. It was a little difficult to picture the stitch pattern when I first started crocheting the skirt.
My waist is nowhere near 29¼” however I like to wear my bottoms low so I decided to crochet a bigger size, plus I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to pull it past my hips. Well, the yarn stretched a little after a wash so I’ve no problem pulling it past my hips but it’s kind of loose on the waist now. Thank goodness for the drawstring.
Since it’s a lace skirt, I’ll have to find a lining for it. I don’t fancy flashing my knickers to the rest of the world when I wear it. I can’t sew to save my life so either I buy some kind of half-slip or I pay someone to sew a lining to the skirt for me.
I wish I’ve taken notes during the process as I can imagine they’ll be useful to any crocheter interested in crocheting the skirt. Eh, I’ll try to remember next time.
I haven’t mastered the art of taking full length pictures of myself so eh, no full action shots.

You could also wear some leggings (yeah…I know, but they’re back in style I swear!) until you get the lining in it that you want.

Wow! This is very lovely! I wish I can make one like that…uhm, longer one. I really don’t know how to knit and I do some crochet but not the kind following patterns. I just go on and on usually with the basic stitch, whatever it’s called.
For the lining idea, you can pick a t-shirt color that’s close to it like maybe dark blue or navy, cut the armpits up and handsew (or crochetsew if you wish) the cut part at the inside part of the skirt. You’ll have instant skirt lining. By the way, that’s my ‘first-aid’ way of making a half slip when I run out of any and I needed it right away. :) No joke. :D

C5, it isn’t really that difficult! Really! The pattern includes instructions for lengthening the skirt so you can make it as long as you want. That’s a really cool idea for a half-slip!
I’ve had this pattern on my mind for some time now - it’s beautiful. It’s nice to hear comments from someone who has made it and to see the end result. I’m still confused though about how to measure. Should I measure my hips or my waist to get the right size?
Personally, I think that if you use your hip measurement, it’ll be too big for your waist. Although there’s a drawstring, I don’t really care for the skirt to look too bunched up. On the other hand, if you use your waist measurement, you might have trouble getting the skirt past your hips unless your yarn is really stretchy. I went for a measurement somewhere between the waist and hips and wear it a little lower (which was sort of what I was aiming for).
I love the lace skirt. I’ve actually been trying to find something similar.

Does anyone have the Lily Chin, lace drawsting skirt pattern?? It is not available on Interweave at this time, and I can’t seem to find it on line. Any help would be appreciated.
